About ZIHUA I.D.

ZIHUA I.D. is an interior design, construction management, and consulting services firm that works with foreign clients seeking a base in Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo. The firm’s founder is Maura Taylor, a New York native with a strong background in construction management, interior design and real estate development.

In 2005, Maura came to Zihuatanejo on vacation and fell in love with the tropical beauty of the area. Soon after, she closed her business connections back home and returned to Zihuatanejo, where she began to work with an American interior designer as design assistant and construction manager.

The first project was a major remodeling of a ten-bedroom luxury home in La Barrita, Mexico, known as “Spyglass”, perched upon a steep cliff side overlooking the Pacific ocean. For the project, Maura traveled throughout Mexico in search of decorative items, custom furniture, ironwork and lighting. Everywhere, from Guadalajara to Oaxaca, Maura worked with Mexican artisans to design and construct a unique look for this large, eclectic home. The long months of building relationships with exceptional craftsmen would form the building blocks of ZIHUA I.D.

Once word was out of a bilingual American with experience in home building, who could understand the needs of American and European clients and translate them to their local architects, Maura landed her first solo project in 2006: for Randy and Dana Baldwin, owners of Villa Xiguacan, a new 18-condo development in La Madera Beach.

The condos were being sold unfinished and the developers sought a liaison for their buyers, someone who could assist each buyer through the entire project lifecycle, from selecting the right architect to delivery of a finished product. Soon, Maura had been contracted by two Xiguacan buyers and representing the best interests of her clients, worked alongside each architect to construct and deliver two highly successful condo finishing projects.

Working alongside local architects and her own talented team, she has gained valuable experience in managing construction projects in Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo. As an American, she understands the needs of her clients, and has developed a program of project management that allows them to effectively keep track of the construction and remodeling process, even from thousands of miles away.

Maura continues to oversee a variety of building and remodeling projects, both residential and commercial. Her firm also provides a wide array of consulting services to assist her foreign clients with their adjustment to a new life in Mexico, such as Mexican visa processing, international relocation assistance, setting up a local business, property management, etc.

Maura created ZIHUA I.D. with the belief that dreams of living and thriving in paradise can be attained, especially in Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo
